Patrons of The Fader’s annual Fader Fort at SXSW know they are set for an amazing experience but an area also prepped for huge crowds at their block long venue. This year brought a different setting with the Fader Fort condensed to an intimate setting brings fans, artists, and influencers into a personal affair.
With sponsorship stations set-up from Jack Daniel’s, Toyota, Budweiser and Vitamin Water, the Fort carried a backyard feel that provided a focus on the artist that commanded the stage.
Wednesday, March 15, Fader Fort played host to an amazing hip-hop set which carried sets from Noname, Playboi Carti, PNB Rock and Lil Yachty, DJ Sets from DJ Kitty Cash and DJ Esco, and pop-up appearances from A$AP Rocky and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.
With the Jack and Bud flowing, Fader Fort was a hub of hype and rowdy hip-hop with crowd surfing of fans after the A$AP leader popped up. A run through recent Future bangers with the coolest DJ turned the venue into a club and the closing from Lil Boat as the sun went down all served as reminders to why The Fader is always a fan favorite.
For Thursday, March 16, Fader infused the sounds of Smino. The St. Louis native was flanked by members of the Zero Fatigue collective – producer Monte Booker, engineer L10Mixed it and fellow emcee Bari Allen – for a run through his recent single “blkswn,” work from his album of the same name, and previous buzzes like “Ballet” and “Smellin’ Like a Reup,” all while representing his hometown in a throwback Ozzie Smith jersey and coordinating red Air Force ones.
Keeping the momentum going for the Thursday affair was Kap G who kept it simple in a white tee as fans sang along with his speaker invigorating bangers like “Girlfriend,” before Cardi B and her vibrant new look of red hair took over the stage. With her traditional Cardi charm, the reportedly new Atlantic Records signee’s stage presence radiated as she performed cuts from her latest Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 2.
