With decades of hit records and impressive rosters it was only right for Def Jam to show off their current stars along side of Hip-Hop DX, MyDiveo, Def Jam. The roster for the night brought in tons of new flavor from the roster to an eager SXSW audience.
Packing out a venue outside of the madness of Sixth Street, the night’s headliner Pusha T was joined by Bibi Bourelly, Jahkoy, Earl St. Clair, HXLT, Desiigner, Lil Durk and a surprise appearance from Vince Staples. The crowd’s energy was kept up by the constant pour of spirits and Brisk Mate Energizing Iced Tea.
Possibly the most talked about act of the evening is Desiigner whose extremely lively stage presence commanded the attention of the entire building as he made all attendees into members of his Panda Gang. Running through his The Life of Pablo featured tracks, his most notable single “Panda” and debut another, which sadly will garner him more Future comparisons, “Pluto.” Speaking of those references, he does not hesitate to state, “I’m not Future!”
Representing Chicago, Lil Durk took the stage with his OTF squad to perform hits hits, digging back a couple of years for “Dis Ain’t What U Want” and his recent collaboration with Dej Loaf “My Beyonce.” To take everybody in the building to the south side, Durk broke into a session with his team and the crowd while Chief Keef’s “Faneto” served as the soundtrack.
As for the main course, King Push slang bars from singles ranging from “Crutches, Crosses, Caskets” on his latest album to “Numbers on the Board” and his scene stealing opening verse from “Don’t Like.”
