For Tiio-Etienne, SXSW is a big week. It’s not only his first time performing at the annual Austin takeover but also serves as a strategic piece of his strategy to elevate his status in hip-hop. Over the past year, Tiio has moved from his hometown of Kansas City to Chicago to work on his career and unleashed a series of music that has been turning heads and confirming that he is excelling. With a couple sets scheduled for the week, Tiio-Etienne shared with us what this year’s music week in Austin means to him and hear his latest offerings below.
Where do you think you stand currently as an artist?
Tiio-Etienne: Currently, I think I’m in prime position to increase my workload and really expand my resources within my music. I’m in a place to get my sound out to a lot wider audience.
What are you hoping to gain from your SXSW experience?
Tiio-Etienne: I’m hoping to gain a wider audience and also gain connections and resources to utilize beyond the event itself to push myself into even greater position musically.
What is the strongest song that is in your set?
Tiio-Etienne: I currently believe the strongest song in my set is Loner Crew or Ruskin High Bounce, they both have a feeling that oozes out the speakers when it drops and the beats are infectious.
Other than performing what are you looking forward to in your Austin, Texas visit?
Tiio-Etienne: Really outside of my performances, I’m looking forward to eating good food and meeting some women with less than stellar morals.
What are your post-SXSW plans?
Tiio-Etienne: Post-SXSW, the plan is to finish up “ruskinhighharmony” and ensure that’s all finalized, and get started on making sure the summer is jam packed with plenty of musical opportunity and growth.
