What do you think about the current state of Chicago in Music and everyday life?
600Breezy: The every day life shows in the music. When you hear people rapping about the guns, killings, whatever, that’s for real. Some Chicago rappers they give you the pain. If you can be happy in Chicago losing your mans, brother, cousins, it’s whatever. It’s really a war zone in Chicago, people label our music as drill music but it’s what’s really going on. We can’t rap about money and nice cars that we don’t got, that would make us some fake niggas. Everybody got guns, everybody killing. The music is about everyday life.
A lot of people who take off in their careers leave Chicago. Do you think of leaving as your success grows?
600Breezy: Me being out of town so much now, I travel a lot, I get homesick bro. I want to leave one minute and be gone for a few days and I’m so sick. I can’t eat or nothing, just want to be home. I can get a house an hour or so out, downtown or something. But I won’t be in somebody’s hood. That would be dumb. It’s a smart thing to leave Chicago, you being from Chicago you know it’s no love period. Niggas going to hate to see me being successful, my own niggas and other niggas, I have the thought but something always brings you back. I got family members and kids; I’m not the nigga to leave everybody behind. Why not make my home better?
You have had fans waiting on Breezo George Gervin. Off the top, what will resonate with the listeners?
600Breezy: People been waiting on Breezo George Gervin since my first project. I been had the name, you feel me, to refer myself to a basketball player. George Gervin is the Icemen and I wear a lot of chains, a lot of jewelry so I named myself that. I told fans it would drop a few times but the reason I pushed it back this time is because it will be coming out more professionally.
Which led to the 600 Cartel?
600Breezy: I partnered with Empire, a distribution company, and through them I opened my own label, 600 Cartel and signed myself. By me signing myself it was the best move for me to do and they wanted to drop it the right way, push it here, push it there. It’s being pushed 100% the right way because Empire is my team behind me. It’s different than the first time when I did it myself, tweeting it out and Facebookin’ it, whatever the case. I got a whole team that’s going to do it for me.
Was there something that let you know Empire was the right move?
600Breezy: Empire is like a family. It’s people over there like family and my Aunt over there, Rita Lee. She does her thing. Anything they have suggested to me it was one of the best ideas I ever heard. They don’t have me signed to bullshit; it’s a family connection. They want to see me win and I love them for that.
You have any other people you are bringing on with you?
600Breezy: One of my homies already has a label and I’m not going to come and shake up everything. 600 Cartel was created to be my own boss. It’s plenty of people who want to be down with 600 Cartel cause they see the movement is strong, reaching out to me to try to be signed. If I do it’s going to be somebody that’s hot.
