1. Migos – Culture (Favorite song: All Ass)
Released in January of this year, this album has consistently held down spots on every top hit list. There’s two qualities about an album that I MUST have in order to deem it great. One, can I dance to this? Two, can I play every song on the album without skipping? The Migos dropped straight bangers and I’m appreciative.
2. DVSN – The Morning After (Body Smile)
Best R&B album of the decade by the coldest R&B duo. Haven’t heard a soulful album this great since Confessions.
3. 2 Chainz – Pretty Girls Like Trap Music (Trap Check)
If anything was literally for the culture this year, it was this masterpiece. 2 Chainz rarely ever disappoints but this time not only did he drop dope ass club bangers he also brought the album to life with the Pink Trap House in the A. Leave it up to Tity Boi to do it the most unconventional way and with the most sauce.
4. SZA – Ctrl (Love Galore)
This album needs to be mentioned because it is so pivotal for SZA. If anybody tripled their fan base this year with one single album release, it’s definitely her. Liberated by her own personal plight she pushed out heartfelt soulful sounds that no other artist in the game has been able to match.
5. Future – Future (Scrape)
Future dropped two back to back albums in 2017. And though, in my opinion, he wasn’t able to top his 2016 run he still killed it with this album. He had time this year; mocking this fake a** hood rappers.
6. Gucci Mane – Droptopwop (Helpless)
2017 is literally Gucci’s year. Known for dropping multiple albums and mixtapes in a short time span, it’s always surprising when his projects come off with thorough quality.
7. Drake – More Life (4422)
Drake redeemed himself with this one, for me. I hated most of Views and was straight disappointed with how he ended “All Summer 16”. But, he made up for it with this clash of music genres. He brought out the reggae and the UK feel all while managing to still make soothing stripper music.
