2017 was a lot. Everybody did a collaboration album and not many of them had replay value, Migos owned the early part of the year and Offset handed the game to his fiance Cardi B who ran with it to the finish line and every week seven albums dropped, which made it hard to keep up with what was the must listen at the time. But guess what, somehow we heard it all.
Aside from “Bartier Cardi” who dominated the headlines? Jay-Z released a cheating manifesto and taught us about financial responsibility all at the same time, Kendrick Lamar did what Kendrick Lamar does and released a great project, SZA came and stole everyone’s hearts for “The Weekend,” Maybach Music had a strong year with efforts from Rick Ross, Meek Mill and Wale, and of course there are the heavyweights like Drake who will always have a presence.
For the second year in a row culture contributors offer their personal seven favorite albums of 2017. This time, beyond myself, the contributors are all women. Pop into their favorites below.
